MIX collects raw financial and social performance data from hundreds of microfinance institutions from all major regions in the developing world. On the basis of only the most accurate of this data, MIX generates business information on the microfinance industry in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe & Central Asia, Latin America & Caribbean, and the Middle East & North Africa. The aggregated regional data and analysis is made publicly available, but MIX also produces in-depth market research on a confidential basis.

Every year, MIX publishes benchmarking reports on each region, analyzing market trends on the basis of adjusted financial information of the most transparent microfinance institutions within the relevant geographic area. These reports outline market trends on the basis of aggregated data from full-year financial reports. MIX promotes its regional research in electronic format to the microfinance industry at large, to the press and to the general public; individual publications can be downloaded free of charge from this website.

In addition, MIX operates an interactive graphical interface, the Heat Map, which uses geometric forms and colors to represent the essence of abstract data. The Heat Map can visualize up to three different layers of data at once, however, not all relationships between variables have analytical value. Finally, on a country level, MIX keeps a database of country profiles in the MIX Market, which provides information on socioeconomic indicators.
