The data includes outreach data, financial data, audited financial statements and contact information of an ever increasing number of microfinance institutions. Data on donors, investors and service providers includes details of financial instruments used, investment focus, application and reporting processes as well as contact information.

Over the past years, MIX's company level data has enabled the microfinance industry to compare financial and outreach performance of individual microfinance institutions with that of their peers, to attract more public and commercially-oriented investors to microfinance, promote financial transparency, accountability, and promote increased disclosure. The company data is also instrumental to improving investment flows from donors and investors to the microfinance industry worldwide. It is widely used in daily business decisions, as background for company presentations, market and academic research as well as for deal sourcing and fund raising initiatives.

MIX encourages microfinance institutions to post profiles on the MIX Market free of charge and to market their organizations to investors and donors in order to mobilize equity capital, loans, and grants. Donors and investors are urged to post profiles to foster potential investment opportunities and to support transparency and benchmarking initiatives. Service providers and governmental agencies are also welcome to publish company and program information. MIX does not guarantee the reliability or accuracy of the company level information; the data is verified by the company that posts it, while MIX executes a subsequent review for coherency and consistency.
